In A Taste of Whiskey, we return to the Redemption Ranch “Dark Knights” and the Whiskey family – this time focusing on Sasha.

In the previous two books in this series, we got an idea that Sasha, unlike her younger sister Birdie, is pretty mellow and level-headed. We also learn that she has a soft spot for Gus, who is fellow Redemption Ranch employee, Ezra Moore’s little boy. We’ve seen some light flirting between Sasha and Ezra, but in this book we get their backstory. Ezra was a formerly troubled teen who spent time at the ranch trying to get his act together, now he is a respected therapist helping others who walk the path he once did. Sasha, has held a torch for Ezra since she was 15 and he was 17, and Ezra has felt the same. Unfortunately, their timing was just never right.

Sasha, having compared all men to Ezra since they kissed as teens, is ready to either get over him or finally get “under” him. It turns out Ezra is on the same page and they start seeing each other. They have to keep things secret while they are figuring out what they will be, since the ranch has a strict non fraternization policy between co-workers. Both of them have a lot to lose if their relationship is discovered, especially Ezra who has created a new family through the ranch and Dark Knights.

While I understood that they probably wouldn’t have made a relationship work as teens, I was a little disappointed in how Ezra dragged his feet in claiming Sasha. Without giving away any spoilers, I felt he had opportunities over the years to let her know how he felt, but he chose easy ways to get his needs met rather than putting in the work needed to be with Sasha. She had to watch him put her aside for years!

Ultimately, they got their HEA with lots of meddling from Sasha’s friends and family. That’s one of the things I love about Melissa Foster books, the strong family bonds – and this book did not disappoint in that area either. I feel like this definitely can be read as a standalone, but you’ll appreciate it so much more if you have the history of the other characters mentioned.

I am SO looking forward to Doc’s story next!

Look for A Taste of Whiskey releasing on 4/10 ❤️
