ARC/ALC: Caught in the Axe

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Caught in the Axe. This was my first trip to Lovewell, Maine – but all of the interesting family and side characters mentioned were incredibly interesting. I will definitely be going back a bit and reading the series that came before this one.

So, in this story, we have Owen (who is best friends with Enzo from Mother Hater) and Lila. Owen is unwillingly dragged back to handle some big family drama and the sale of the family business. He has been disconnected from his family ever since he left the town a 18 years old. Lila, who has recently returned to Locewell to get her life in order before she leaves for grad school, is Owen’s little brother Cole’s ex girlfriend of 8 years. She is also a decade younger than Owen.

Lila is hired to help Owen with the financial mess at the family business while he’s preparing for the sale. They pretty much have instant chemistry. I loved that this was a dual perspective so we knew what both MCs were thinking and feeling during their high chemistry, but at times awkward first meeting.

It was really fun seeing the banter between Owen and his brothers as well as a bit of their healing and a family. I also loved that Lila, who has always been a people pleaser, really found her voice in this book. The spicy scenes were very entertaining but not too numerous that there was no real story.

I just really liked this book a lot and I can’t wait for Gus’ story next after that epilogue!

*Audio Edit*

I am in lurve with the audibook version of this with narrators Aiden Snow & Mollie Stark! Mr. Snow is always a yes for me when it comes to male narrators, and as a new to me narrator, Mollie was a great casting for Lila. They had great pacing and no annoying habits.
