I really enjoyed reading about Cam & Ava’s story. This was more like a second chance and missed connection trope in one. Ava and Cam always had a spark. One night before Cam left for college, a 16 or 17 year old Ava went to him for comfort, safety and and a hope of starting something more with him. She was devastated the next morning when Cam basically crushed her spirit by not remembering anything that happened between them.

For years afterward, Ava thought she hated him. Cam still had feelings for her, but apparently he had more living to do before coming back for her. Now, I totally understand that he wanted to go after his professional dreams, but it also sounded a bit like he wanted to get laid by more women before he settled down with the girl he knew he was in love with. Honestly, that part left a bitter taste in my mouth. He knowingly hurt Ava for years because he was an immature idiot who wanted his cake and to eat it too.

Anyway, I was happy when these two got on the same page and started their relationship. I liked how supportive their families were about them. Ava’s older brother and Cam’s best friend Isaiah, even seemed like he was trying his hand at matchmaker. Also, side note, I’d really like to know what the backstory is with the local bar owner who hates Isaiah.

There was a little suspense with one of the town losers, but it all went down in like the last 5% of the book, so things were wrapped up pretty quickly with that side story. All in all, this was a very engaging story and great addition to the series. I’m itching to get Dalton’s story since it seems like Ava’s bestie Lydia was having an effect on the stoic older brother. I have a feeling Gavin might be next though, with talks of his daughter’s new attractive teacher that moved down the street from him. Either way, I’m here for it!
