Narration by CJ Bloom & Sebastian York.
I feel like more than anything this book truly devoted a large portion of the beginning, to the evolution of Jack’s personality – because in the beginning, I was ready to shoot a hockey puck at his face. I get that he didn’t know what to do with his feelings and he was going through a lot, both emotional and physical, but I was ready to mollywop him.
I absolutely loved Everly’s vibe. It’s obvious that she is still battling some self esteem issues from past childhood trauma, but with so many people in her corner who love her exactly as she is, she had her own smaller evolution and found her true voice. And girl had sass for days which I loved.
I loved the side characters and those that provided insight into our character’s personality, like Jack’s dad did. I listened to this book in one sitting, could not put it down. A big part of that marathon listen was, in large part, due to narrators York & Bloom – I felt they were a great casting for our main characters. While Sebastian York has definitely been around for a while and could easily read for far more mature characters, I love that he is still believable for a guy in his early 30s. The pacing of the narration and editing were also seamless, no need to change reading speed at any point.
I came into this series on the final book, and even though I could tell there was a lot of shared history from previous books, this was a true test of whether it could also be enjoyed as a standalone – I felt it passed with flying colors!
